FOR THE ATTENTION OF COMPANIES, NGOs AND ASSOCIATIONS FOR A RELEVANT REPRESENTATION OF THE RESPONSIBLE CIVIL SOCIETY TOWARDS INTERNATIONAL HIGH AUTHORITIES

Who are we?

cccccccWebForce International WebForce International Federation has been a non governmental organization in special consultative status with the United Nations since 2001. We have existed since 1993 and are specialized in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Besides, we have taken an active part in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), during the two main phases, in Geneva and in Tunis, or during the regional forums.

Our point of view about ICTs and sustainable development

cccccccTelecommunications are the basis for an harmonious development for modern societies. A commercial harmonization for a liberal model of globalization should take into account the different economic development levels in countries and, as a consequence, help developing countries and the least developed countries to have the same right of access to telecommunications as the richest countries already have.

cccccccWe affirm our will to participate in the implementation of lower-cost universal access to telecommunications for the least fortunate people and to create partnerships private sector-NGOs-States through a strong involvement of the non politicized Responsible Civil Society, which has understood that working for others’ well-being, it means improving its own well-being.

Our actions

Gather NGOs in status with the United Nations
cccccccWithin a world communication network, we gather the whole NGOs in status with the United Nations that want it, for a complementarity in specific actions of each one of them. Indeed, we want to coordinate actions and do our utmost to improve their efficiency, their power and their scope.

The CODETIC
cccccccThe World Consortium for the Equitable Development of ICTs is a project that we have prepared for a long time and that we present today to the Civil Society, the United Nations and countries’ governmental authorities. The aim of this Consortium is to implement lower-cost universal access to telecommunications for the most destitute people, in order to help them to come out of exclusion. So, we organize two preparatory meetings: one in Geneva, in the Palais des Nations, from the 9th to the 11th July 2007, the other one in Hammamet, in Tunisia, at the beginning of September 2007; and the World Summit of the Civil Society for the Equitable Development of ICTs (CIDETIC), in Tunis in November 2007. If you are interested in this action, you can see further details by clicking here.

Our goal

cccccccWe think that single actions by each stakeholder of the Civil Society do not contribute to the efficiency of the global action of the Civil Society. So, by writing to you, we want to develop the convergence of the Civil Society stakeholders. By joining us or any other NGO in status and that you are interested in its actions, we want to make us benefit from our consultative status with the United Nations. It means also making us benefit from our contacts and our knowledge about the United Nations system and its specialized agencies.
